IV BiotechHealth Annual Symposium
Sp tting the

Biotechnology driving precision medicine
4 July 2017 | i3S | Porto

WELCOME
Welcome to the IV BiotechHealth Annual Symposium.
With the aim of providing the right drug, for the right patient, at the right time, precision medicine allows the tailoring of clinical decisions towards individual patients through their stratification into well-defined subpopulations, based on their genetic, cellular and molecular profiles.
Placed at the interface of basic research and clinical implementation, biotechnology has been a crucial source of cutting-edge tools and platforms responsible for overcoming technical challenges and driving precision medicine to a closer reality. Indeed, biotechnology has played a central role in pushing precision medicine forward, namely through the acquisition and integration of massive amounts of clinical data brought to us by novel OMIC approaches and the development of sophisticated in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models of human pathologies of increasing complexity and heterogeneity.
We hope that talks from renowned national and international speakers, addressing different approaches to the emerging concept of precision medicine, will stimulate rewarding discussions and help both the academic and scientific community to understand which steps still need to be taken in order to bring precision medicine closer to patients.
