Genetic factors underlying cardiovascular diseases:

how to prevent the damage?

Susana Santos is co-founder/shareholder of HeartGenetics. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biology (Faculdade de Ciências) and is a specialist in Human Genetics (Ordem dos Biólogos). She attended the Advanced Management Program on Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Católica Lisbon – BES, School of Business and Economics (2013). She is also an Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, the coordinator of the Scientific Area of Biology and was an Invited Professor at Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade de Lisboa in Molecular and Human Genetics. Her main interest is applying scientific knowledge to healthcare. Her main expertise relates to tackling molecular and cellular mechanisms of cardiovascular genetic diseases and correlating it with clinical profile. Also following the development of pharmacogenetics. Most recent interests focus on applying nutrigenetic based-knowledge which may potentially transform nutrition and dietetic practice. As a researcher of Faculdade de Farmácia and Instituto Superior Técnico she has coordinated one national project (cardiogenetics) and participated in more than 10 national project (cardiogenetics and cancer). She has co-supervised about 15 master students and co-authored about 20 papers in journals and national /international conferences and 1 book chapter in the area of genetics and molecular biology.
