Next generation immunotherapies for colorectal cancer

Noel de Miranda is principal investigator at the Leiden University Medical Center. He conducted his undergraduate studies on Applied Biology at the University of Minho and moved to LUMC, the Netherlands, to carry out his PhD in Onco-immunity and TGF- signaling in mismatch repair and MUTYH deficient colorectal cancer, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Hans Morreau. In 2010, he moved to the Karolinska Institute in Sweden to study the genetics of B cell lymphomagenesis as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Q. Pan-Hammarström. After this, in 2014, he moved back to LUMC to study the genetics of hereditary/familial colorectal cancer with Dr. T. van Wezel and Prof. Dr. Hans Morreau. His current work focus on the development of personalized immunotherapies for colorectal cancer patients and on the discovery of novel immune cell subsets with anti-cancer activity. Dr Noel is also interested on the genetics of microsatellite-unstable and familial colorectal cancer. His excellent work has been supported by the Fight Colorectal Cancer-Michael’s Mission-AACR Fellowship and by the Bas Mulder Award 2015 (Alpe d’HuZes/KWF) that he won in 2015. Last year, he won a Veni ZonMW grant to fund his work that ultimate aims to develop an innovative immune cell therapy for metastatic cancer patients.
